Visolis’ technology combines synthetic biology and traditional chemical catalysis to produce a portfolio of bio-based chemicals, including drop-in replacements for currently produced petro-chemicals. Our technology allows for use of a variety of sustainable raw materials, including waste biomass and CO2, to be transformed into bio-based chemicals for both specialty and high-end applications ranging from personal care to high performance polymers. Utilizing our proprietary bio-based solvent, Visolis has developed a process to recycle various polymer scrap material, like PVC and polycarbonate, and return it to near virgin quality for re-use in consumer products. Visolis is located in Hayward, CA with work in close collaborations with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Argonne National Laboratory, and the University of California at Berkeley and Davis. It has received over $15M in funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
